"My journey began as an independent photographer documenting football matches and street life, turning my camera into a bridge between reality and beauty."

Aymane Khachchani is a Moroccan photographer and journalism student passionate about capturing stories through the lens.

"I specialise in sports and cinematic photography, I strive to freeze the rare moments that embody passion, strength, and emotion.

He aspires to grow within sports media, collaborating with clubs, newspapers, and international platforms, while relying on his skills in professional photography, image editing, and storytelling in Arabic, French, and English, as I continue to learn Spanish.

For Aymane, every picture is a story and every match a narrative, my role as a photographer is to make people feel as though they are living inside the moment.

How would you describe yourself in a few sentences?

I describe myself as a storyteller with a camera, always chasing the rare moment filled with truth and wonder. Sports photography fascinates me because it unites speed, passion, and dreams in a single frame, while street life inspires me with its simplicity and hidden beauty.

"A fun fact about me is that I completely lose track of time when I’m behind the lens, as if the world pauses so I can give each picture its own life."

How did you first get into photography? Was there a specific moment, person, or inspiration that sparked your passion for capturing images?

I entered the world of photography out of simple curiosity, fascinated by how a single image could tell a story more powerfully than words. My true passion ignited with street life, the small moments people live through, the expressions on their faces, sunlight casting patterns on buildings, and the quiet beauty hidden in everyday life.

Photography became my way to freeze these moments, capturing stories that often go unnoticed, and turning them into visual tales that live forever.

What type(s) of photography do you specialise in, and why did you choose this niche? How has your style evolved over time?

I specialize in street and cinematic photography because both allow me to tell real, emotionally rich stories through images. Street photography captures daily life, the small details, and natural emotions that often go unnoticed, while cinematic photography enables me to create scenes with visual drama and impact.

Over time, my style has evolved from simply capturing spontaneous moments to paying close attention to composition, light, and angles, always aiming to convey a specific story or feeling through each image.

"My photographs have become more than snapshots; they are visual narratives that reflect the spirit and hidden beauty of life."

Can you share the underlying themes or ideas that drive your photography? How do you use your images to connect with others?

The main themes that drive my photography are people, everyday life, and the hidden beauty in small details. I love capturing moments that reflect genuine emotions, whether on the streets or in any place that holds untold stories. I use my photos as a means of communication through visual storytelling; each image conveys a message, feeling, or story that I want the viewer to experience.

My goal is to make people pause, reflect, and perhaps see life from a different perspective, because a powerful photograph can move emotions and connect humans through shared experiences.

What's the one achievement or moment in your photography career that you're most proud of?

One of the proudest moments in my photography journey was having the opportunity to work with 2M and Riyadiya TV, covering significant events and matches.

I also visited international art exhibitions by Sony, where my work was showcased directly to them, giving me a great sense of recognition and accomplishment

.

Additionally, I collaborated with famous photographers and actors, participating in projects that allowed me to further develop my creative and professional skills, and experience photography in a way that tells stories through images with impact and emotion.

What's the biggest challenge you've faced as a photographer, and how did you overcome it? What did you learn from that experience?

The biggest challenge I faced as a photographer was dealing with live street scenes where moments pass quickly and light and composition change constantly. Initially, I struggled to capture the right moment without missing it, especially with unexpected events or fleeting expressions.

To overcome this, I trained myself to pay attention to details, read movements, and always be ready with the right camera and lenses, while also mentally planning shots before they happened.

From this experience, I learned that photography is not just about taking pictures, it is the art of observing the world and understanding its natural rhythm to capture the most authentic and beautiful moment possible.

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be and why?

I would choose Steve McCurry (@stevemccurryofficial), one of the most iconic photographers in the world. His work captures raw human emotion and tells stories that transcend cultures and languages.

Collaborating with him would allow me to learn from his mastery of composition, color, and storytelling, while sharing my own perspective on street life and everyday moments. I believe this experience would inspire me to elevate my craft and expand the way I convey stories through photography.

What are your thoughts on the 54Ruum platform?

I see 54Ruum as an innovative platform that empowers photographers, visual artists, models, and creators across Africa.

54Ruum provides a space for collaboration, cultural exchange, and professional growth, allowing creators to showcase their work, share ideas, and connect with like-minded individuals.

In my view, 54Ruum plays a vital role in highlighting African creativity, offering exposure and opportunities that help artists develop their skills while contributing to the broader creative community. I believe it’s an excellent platform for photographers like me to share stories visually, reach wider audiences, and collaborate on meaningful projects.

How's the photography and art space in your country: how has it evolved in recent years?

In Morocco, the field of photography and visual arts has seen significant development in recent years. There is growing interest in visual art and creative innovation, with numerous exhibitions and festivals providing opportunities for young photographers to showcase their work and connect with wider audiences.

Digital and social media platforms have also played a key role in spreading art and photography, enabling collaboration and creative exchange both locally and internationally. I feel that this growth has created a stimulating environment for emerging artists, allowing them to explore new styles, learn from one another, and share everyday life stories in innovative and impactful visual ways.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone just starting their photography journey, what would it be?

If I could give one piece of advice to someone just starting their journey in photography, it would be to learn to observe the world with your eyes before your lens.

"Photography is not just about taking pictures; it is about noticing the small details, fleeting moments, and hidden stories around us."

Every successful photo begins with an attentive eye that sees beauty in simplicity and emotion in the moment, then uses the camera as a tool to share that vision with others. Continuous practice, patience, and daily experience are what shape a truly exceptional photographer.
